Sarasota, Florida

Online psychiatry for Sarasota and the Suncoast.

Psychiatric evaluations, medication management and psychotherapy by secure video — for patients in Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice and across Sarasota and Manatee counties.

Care that fits an irregular week

Sarasota's working population is unusually weighted toward self-employment, seasonal work, hospitality and the arts — schedules that do not fit a Monday-to-Friday clinic. A standing 2pm appointment is easy to keep in an office job and close to impossible if your week is built around performances, service shifts or a tourist season.

That is a practical reason people abandon psychiatric care rather than a clinical one. Treatment stops not because it stopped working but because the appointments stopped being attendable.

Horizon runs appointments by secure video, Monday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm — which puts real evening and weekend slots on the table rather than only weekday afternoons. Patients across Sarasota, Bradenton, Venice, Osprey, Nokomis, Palmetto and Lakewood Ranch can be seen, along with anyone else physically located in Florida at the time of the appointment.

A two-county catchment

Sarasota does not sit neatly inside one county's care network. The metro spans Sarasota and Manatee, patients routinely cross the line for work and healthcare, and provider networks do not always follow the same boundary. It is common to find a clinician who takes your insurance but sits on the wrong side of the county line for a convenient in-person appointment.

Video appointments make that irrelevant. The only geographic requirement is being physically located in Florida during the visit — county, city and driving distance stop mattering entirely.

What treatment looks like here

A first appointment is a full 60 minutes. That covers what brought you in, when it started, medical history, previous treatments and what you actually want to be different. It is long enough to separate conditions that present similarly — anxiety from ADHD, depression from an untreated sleep problem or a thyroid issue — which a fifteen-minute appointment cannot reliably do.

Follow-ups are shorter and more frequent early on, particularly when a medication has just started or changed, then less frequent as things settle.

Care covers psychiatric evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy, and treatment for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, PTSD and insomnia.

Inpatient treatment, intensive outpatient programmes and substance use treatment are not offered here. If that is the level of care your situation needs, you will be told at the first appointment rather than months later.

Insurance, self-pay and booking

Oscar, Cigna and Aetna are accepted. Sarasota has a high proportion of self-employed and marketplace-plan patients, and marketplace behavioural health benefits vary sharply between plans from the same insurer — checking your specific plan is worth more here than assuming based on the logo on the card.

Self-pay is published: $230 for the 60-minute initial evaluation, $100 per follow-up. For anyone on a high-deductible marketplace plan — common among the self-employed — self-pay is frequently the cheaper option outright, and nothing is routed through an insurer. The self-pay page sets out the arithmetic; full fees are on the rates page.

No referral is required. Book online, or call 954-692-7017 or text 954-531-5108.

Common questions

What you may be wondering.

Do you offer evening appointments? Yes. Appointments run Monday to Saturday, 10am to 8pm. Later slots and Saturdays are often easier to book than mid-afternoon weekday times, which is usually the constraint for people working irregular or seasonal hours.

I am self-employed with a high-deductible plan. Is insurance or self-pay cheaper? Frequently self-pay, at least until the deductible is met. On a high-deductible plan you generally pay the full contracted rate per visit anyway, which is often close to or above the $230 published rate. Once the deductible is met, or if your plan has a behavioural health copay below $100, insurance is usually cheaper.

Can I be seen if I live in Bradenton or Manatee County? Yes. Appointments are by secure video and county lines are irrelevant — you only need to be physically located in Florida at the time of the visit.

What if I need to be seen in person? Some things need in-person assessment — bloodwork, or symptoms suggesting a physical cause. Where that applies you will be told directly and pointed toward the right kind of care, rather than managed remotely regardless.
